Victory | Bend It Like Stallone
We are lacing up our boots and hitting the pitch (Thank you, Ted Lasso) as we head on over to 1981 for the soccer-drama-escape-movie Victory. And no, we will not be calling this movie, Escape to Victory. Much like ret-conning Raiders of the Lost Ark to Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark...we will never call it that. Ever. Ever. Never. Ever.
This is Victory. (Yes...Field is only thinking about Johnny Drama right now) The story of a great escape, but done during a sort-of-true-to-life story during WWII, about a group of POW soccer players who take on the very best that Germany has to offer in a winner-take-all match.
There's drama! There's sports! There's Stallone! Yes, Sylvester Stallone is basically our main character here who is part (very small) Steve McQueen and part Rocky, we think. Stallone was writing Rocky III while shooting this movie. How's that for a fun fact?
And Michael Caine is in this! And yes, he's playing soccer, if you really believe that's him on the pitch during those scenes. We don't. Find out what else we thought bout this film...below!
